1. Background Story:
My question is, how many gunshots, from any type of gun, anywhere in theU.S.A., go off every day. This includes any American Personnel employed by the US military overseas or in different countries. I chose this problem for a couple of reasons. First, I do not shoot with a gun a lot, so in researching this problem, I might learn some more. It is also a Great Fermi problem. Something that is used so frequently, like a gun, cannot be measured exactly, or even close to the right amount. You cannot just google this question. You need to ask several different questions about the types of guns fired, how many are fired in certain countries, how many hunters are there in the world, and how many shots those hunters fire per day. As you can see, this will be avert (sp) complex problem, needing multiple answers to solve.
How many hunters go hunting and how much do they shoot each day?
How many shots does the U.S. Military fire each day?
How many shots are fired at American firing ranges each day?
There are a total of 1,455,375 active personnel in the US military.
There is a total of 26 million people who hunt in the USA.
There are on average 50 firing ranges in each state, and, on average, there are 90 shots fired at each range each say(sp).
There are 1,388,028 American troops currently overseas. Assuming that 1/50th of those troops fire 15 shots for each soldier each day, whether at practice ranges or in combat, then we can say that 416,408 shots are fired by American soldiers overseas everyday.

If there are 50 firi[b]ng ranges,on average, in each state, (each state has between 10 and 110 firing ranges, so I just averaged it out) and at each firing range, 90 shots are fired daily, than 225,000 shots are fired daily at firing ranges.
I estimated the number of shots fired by hunters each day by also estimating the number of hunters in America, the percent of hunters who hunt each day, and the amount of shots fired on each trip. My result was 520,000 shots were fired.
Another estimation that I used in section A was: Assuming 1/50th of thos[c]e hunters hunt each day, and during each hunting day two shots are fired, then 520,000 shots are fired by hunters each day.

Because I have already calculated the number(number) of shots fired above, then it will be easy to add up the total amount. All I have to do is add the number of shots fired for the military, hunting, and shooting ranges over all of America. However, this is the formula I used to find the amount for each of the statistics above.
Mathematical formula: 90 times 50, times 50 equals 225,000.
1,388,028 divided by 50 times 15 equals 416,408.
26,000,000 divided by 50 times two equals 520,000.
225,000 + 416,408+520,000=1,161,408

1,161,408 shots are fired daily in the USA.
